Natural Gas Prices and NGV's

Tue, Dec 20th 2011 02:12 pm

The January gas futures contract is currently trading at $3.10, about the same as it settled yesterday. By comparison, the 12 month strip is trading at $3.37/MMBtu and this year's winter strip (Jan 12 - Mar 12) is trading at $3.15/MMBtu.

Natural Gas Prices Keep Falling

Extremely high production, coupled with unusually moderate temperatures, have helped drive prompt-month gas prices down nearly 40% since they reached their peak for the year at just under $5.00.

The really cold weather should be coming soon, but so long as supply remains high and demand stays so low, natural gas prices can only expect to continue to drop.

Natural Gas Vehicle Infrastructure Continues Growth

With the large spread between oil and natural gas prices, in combination with the abundance of local natural gas supply, it is becoming more enticing to invest in the infrastructure necessary to support widespread Natural Gas Vehicle usage.

There are currently about 930 Compressed Natural Gas Stations nationwide, and the companies manufacturing the vessels that dispense natural gas are seeing unprecedented growth in sales.

Many cities and states are also considering the switch to natural gas such as New York City who recently purchased 300 natural gas busses for cleaner and cheaper operation within the city.
